Importing a vCard

A vCard is a virtual business card. The vCard has become a standard format for storing information about individuals or corporations and can contain a person’s name, organization, and miscellaneous identifying information. Some fields in some views accept vCard data.

Note Importing vCard data into a field clears any existing data in the field.

Metadata interfaces

There are two interfaces that you can use to enter metadata.

Basic interface The basic interface presents a simple list of fields grouped into categories. Users cannot specify a language for their values or enter values in multiple languages, nor can they add additional values to a field (although they can configure a view to display a field multiple times in the basic interface, enabling users to enter multiple values).

Adding metadata to a resource

The easiest way to add metadata to a resource is to enter it manually into Learning Environment.

Note If you want to use a template, import metadata, or copy metadata from another resource, do so before manually entering data. Any data you enter manually is erased when you apply existing metadata from another source.

Metadata

Instructor topics

Metadata is information about a learning resource that you add to the resource to help other users locate it and understand its purpose.

From within a Learning Object Repository (LOR), you can search for learning resources (objects and files) based on their metadata, and you can view an object’s metadata to determine whether it suits your needs before you import it into a course. Depending on your permissions, you can also edit the learning object’s metadata.

Uploading and downloading files in Manage Files

Manage Files enables you to select and upload files from your computer to Learning Environment. You can upload most file types, but ensure that users have the appropriate software to view these files.

Though you can upload most file types to a content directory in Manage Files, only files with specific extensions can be used as content topics. For a list of unsupported file types and extensions, see Restricted file extensions.
