Section properties

The following descriptions explain the options available on the Create Sections page and provide conceptual information on when they should be used.

Section enrollment types

Sections of # Creates an unlimited number of sections with a maximum number of users in each section. Use this enrollment type when you know how many users you want in each section.

Use the Manage Sections tool to divide your class into sections and help manage large enrollments. Sections make it easier to organize assistants, assignments, and grades.

When sections exist for a course, users only see learning materials and users from their own section. If you want users to see all users and content for a course, but be a part of a group for a specific project or activity, use the Groups tool.

Setting default seating charts

The default seating chart for a location in your course automatically appears when you associate a Calendar event with that location. Every location has its own default seating chart.

The first seating chart you create for a location in your course becomes the default seating chart associated with that location for your course. Creating additional seating charts will not change the default seating chart for a location.

English

Creating seating charts

Before you can create a seating chart for your course, you must have existing locations and associated layouts set up. If you are unable to add or edit locations and layouts, contact your administrator as you may not have the necessary permissions.

English

Seating Chart sessions

When you add an event to a seating chart with a location, it is called a session. You can track attendance and participation for sessions and make student-specific comments. Sessions are accessible from both Calendar and Seating Chart.

You can create a session by scheduling an event in a location associated with a seating chart in Calendar.

Tip Track in-class sessions live using a tablet and the supported Desktop Web browser.

Reusing release conditions

If you’ve already created a condition and want to apply the same condition to another item, you can quickly select the condition from a list of existing conditions in your course by clicking Attach Existing. This saves you entering the criteria a second time.

Note When you attach an existing condition from another item to a second item, the two conditions are not associated in any way. If you change the condition on either item or remove the condition from either item it has no affect on the other.
